Meet Michelle

Photobucket

She first caught my attention when one of my friends randomly pointed at her walking down the Drag. Combination of her petiteness and her gigantic military bag, in addition to her chic and sporty bob definitely meant business. I ran after her, as always, totally disregarding her reaction towards my awkward encounter. Strangers usually always let us take pictures of them... at least in Austin, TX. But New York? Completely a different story. One time, this guy that I took a picture of charged at me, threatening me that he'll break my camera (Mary's) if I didn't delete his picture instantly.

She was a psychology student from California visiting Austin for SXSW. She came off very put-together, confident, and friendly, despite her fiercely intimidating bob. She plans to attend Grad-school for psychology here at University of Texas at Austin where it's known for their prestigious psychology program.

I sometimes wonder if my perception of UT would change if I was any other major than fashion design. I feel like a lot of my friends are very proud to be here wearing their burnt orange shirts, with their horns up high, making fun of A&M and OU whenever they get the chance. I definitely do feel like I'm getting that ideal "college experience" but I wouldn't go far as describing UT as the best school especially for me and what I want to accomplish in life.

In the end, I'm taking whatever I need to further better myself in the future and doing best as I can in the environment that I'm in. It might not be by choice, but why not make it worth awhile?

Here is Michelle,

Name: Michelle Yang
School: UCLA
Major: Psychology B.A.
Wearing: jacket from Echo Park and everything else from Rose Bowl Flea Market

CHEAP . GIRLY . BOYISH

I love how she described herself in complete contradiction. What is life without contradictions? And for those who incorporate contrasts into their wardrobe, I salute you.

Oh, and apparently, Rose Bowl Flea Market is the place to shop in SoCal. Second Sunday of every month, folks!

SXSW 2K11 Kick Off

I actually planned on staying in Austin for this spring break just because I always seem to be running short on $$$ so that I could pick up extra shifts at work for a week. This so called "break" came around at the perfect time along with two "important notices from the Dean's office" saying that if I don't attend classes everyday from now on until school ends, that I will fail miserably from the courses. What a great kick off to this perfect break that I've been dreading since school started back in January?

No, I am not in any way of trying to play the victim card, but I feel that it's a necessary feeling or a plateau you should or would go through during anyone's college careers. This academic "break" determines whether you want to proceed with getting your bachelors, or simply just drop out. I'm not the one to quit/brave enough (whichever you prefer) so dropping out is just a mere dream of mine, but everything happens for a reason, right?

I've reached the very low point of my life aka all I want to do is Tumblr but the reality of it is that because I've hit rock bottom according to the Dean via personal email, I definitely feel more motivated to do better in the fields of academics.

I'm not going to say in detail of how much more motivated but at least I am.

I didn't really want to upload this look because it's a trainwreck hands-down but I needed something for this kick off post and this is all I had.

leopard again

I've been obsessing over this versatile leopard fabric ever since I found it in my mom's closet last year. I tend to find all of my favorite pieces to wear in my mom's closet or somewhere in the attic. These pictures were taken a few weeks ago in Austin by Tayo Zhou at around 2am, and I remember that it was freezing that night!

Wearing: Gap sweater, tights from Dillards, boots from some store @ the outlet mall, rings from Fossil and New York & Co.

right now

This past weekend, I drove to Plano to see Sona. Immediately, we knew that we wanted to shoot some pictures in the alley of a neighborhood. I like to take pictures of people in places that define them. Sometimes I like to take pictures in grassy areas and sometimes in urban places. This time, I decided to shoot Sona at the place that she spent most of her life - the suburbs of Plano. This outfit completely defines Sona's style.

-Mary

I've been dying to wear these wedges ever since I first bought them at the beginning of winter break! I never had the chance to because I've just been working all break. Thankfully, Mary drove to Plano to see me and take some pictures of me! I wore these Charles Albert wedges with a fur vest from The Limited, an over-sized buttoned down shirt, leggings and socks.

Kaidon introduced me to Rose in early fall. Not surprisingly, I was instantly drawn to her charm and charisma. Despite her busy schedule as a student and freelance wardrobe stylist, she made time to meet with us at Coco’s CafĂ©.

Rose currently assists Brandy Joyce Smith. Rose first met Smith when she was working for Smith’s charity event, Oceana during fashion week at A-Loft Hotel. From there, the two built a relationship. So … what exactly does she do? She writes a lot of emails, organizes the immense amount of clothes, and gives her opinions. In addition to her fast-paced lifestyle, she works on 3-5 magazines every month and coordinates a lot of photo shoots for upcoming photographers.

Blog: Mystylescript.com

Interesting Idiosyncrasies: She likes to sing and dance to hip hop. She’s also scared of the dark and always uses a night light. Oh, and her favorite sushi place is Musashino.

Favorite place in Austin: Town Lake

Inspiration: There are people out there who don’t hesitate to live. Despite fears and obstacles, these people live for a purpose. These are the types of people who inspire Rose.

Words of Advice: Accessorize. Keep Colors Neutral. No Jeans.

fur frenzy

It really surprises me that fur is just now getting so popular because it has been around for so long! Nonetheless, it's definitely the time to find the nearest furry creature and wear it! From vests to skirts to scarves, it doesn't matter in what form, as long as you rock it.

New York Fashion Week: Day 3

Good Morning, East Village

So me and Stefant decided to sleep in a study lounge because you know, Bri's dorm room was kind of crowded and we didn't really want to bother any of her roommates but it was so comfortable. When I woke up in the middle of the night, I noticed that someone made a huge bed/mattress on the floor with bunch of cushions from the study lounge couches. It was magnificent. We were going to recreate that that night but we were going to spend the night over at Sofia's sister, Tanya's apartment so that had to hold off.

It was a bright morning, even though the study lounge was dark, in the basement of the New School's dorm building. You know what i mean? Not like physically bright but because of all the excitement from the night before and the thought of exploring a whole new world!

We decided to go eat at Whole Foods, one, because that was the only restaurant we knew exactly where it was and the tendency and quality of the food, two, because we just love Whole Foods, and three, it's located at the Union Square Park, right by a huge Forever 21 that we never went to...

Made her get those... Actually "made" wouldn't be a correct term... more like "suggested". Of course she bought them even though the manager nicely advised us that those weren't on sale. Who wouldn't go ape shit on Jeffrey Campbell's.
