Day 4, Person 4

In the quest to find our 4th person, Kaidon and I went to the Starbucks Cafe on 24th and San Antonio. I don't really know why, but we like to go here a lot. Whether it's to study or to just simply observe people, we love this place.

Photobucket

Did I also mention that it rained a lot today? When it rains, it pours. Don't get me wrong. I love the rain - just not when I'm unprepared for the unpredictable Texas weather. We seriously scanned the whole cafe for what seemed like hours until we almost gave up hope. We walked outside, and Kaidon spotted our potential person. She was scurrying down 24th street in her black, noir trench coat. Kaidon grabbed my umbrella and chased right after this mysterious woman. Creepy. I know. We do anything for our blog.

This is just a glimpse of Austin showers.

I took a particular interest in this girl because of the glimpse I caught with the corner of my eye seemed promising. I had no doubts in my mind about how blog worthy she was going to be. She rushed by in the rain (or so I thought she did, maybe it was how short of a time it was for me to notice her) under her black umbrella that was so picturesque and cinematic; I had to chase after her at that. Mary described her perfectly. If one word came into my mind, it was mysterious. She definitely was in search for something. She looked a little lost, a little hesitant, but completely in control.

Photobucket

Cool. Relaxed. Chill.

I started asking her questions, although I couldn't hear her name the first time, I continued. She mumbled a bit, but it all fit with who she was. I liked that. I asked her where she was headed in the pouring rain, and she replied that she had hit an inspiration plateau, a "creative lost". A common disorder for artists in general - a few of the things in the world that we are not immune to. This caught my attention. She also explained that she was into film and was exploring the area of black/white photography, something that's similar to art and film, almost a medium yet so foreign.

"How are you supposed to express anything without a sound or color?"

I wanted to know what she was impacted by, what inspired her and and what gave her a purpose. Maybe a thriving passion? She also gave me a questionable answer, "That's a good question" and I was happy at that. What an answer! Can I please start answering questions like her from now on? It was a vague question especially after we had just talked about how she was at a creative lost and that she's on an exploration but honestly, I get inspired by the most random things at random times. As a fashion designer, I always tend to think in terms of garments and the end production. Random things that give detail and structure in my life come from anything. Colors, shapes, nature, people, history, stories, pictures, and stalking random people to take a picture of them are definitely some of the things that intrigues me. She did explain that she usually wear clothes that are either really colorful or all black and very 80's, but not intentional of course.

I had asked her for her last name towards the end of the conversation to keep up with the pattern from the first blog post but she humbly refused to tell and I respected that.

Remember to wear your Austin best. You never know where we'll be next!

Passion Pit and Tokyo Police Club

Meet Tokyo Police Club.

Photobucket

As much as I love pretending I'm important, I love attending free events even more. Passion Pit and Tokyo Police Club came to Waterloo Records last week for a free pre-show party. I have actually never heard of these bands in my whole life, but I think they capture the Austin music scene pretty well.

Oh, hi random girl looking effortless.

I am fascinated by the people with a natural frown look. Intriguing, indeed.

We encountered Jenny and her beautiful crew in the line in front of Waterloo Records. So fellow Texans might understand how hot the summers here are and I would say these girls represent good examples of how to look minimal yet bold under the impossible heat of the Texas sun.

Jenny is a personal friend of mine, that I met through my roommate. I just adore her glorious long black hair and her lean/statuesque height that reminds me of Pocahontas. We met unexpectedly but a great encounter nonetheless!

we tried so hard to stalk the members of Tokyo Police Club but fail. oops! Better luck next time :D xoxo

Anyway, Kaidon and I went to a studio across Whole Foods to take some snap shots of Austin's people. I mean, if a band is coming, there are bound to be some fashionable hippies, right?

TriBeza Fashion Show

Photobucket

Kaidon and I went to the TriBeza Fashion Show on June 19, 2010 to help out backstage as dressers. I've watched a few fashion shows, but it's really cool to watch what happens "behind-the-scenes."

The fashiond show feature Maggie Norris Couture, Richie Rich, and Carson Couture. Maybe you have scene Richie Rich on ANTM Cycle 3? I was really nervous just touching $1,000 clothing items. Being surrounded by all the attractive models did not help either ...

Over at the Oasis

Photobucket

Kaidon and I went to the Oasis last night, June 22nd, with some friends. I'm not really a nature person, but I think everyone (at least once in their lives) should drive down the long winding road that leads to this restaurant. Mountains, trees, and birds are everywhere! As Kaidon would describe it, "I feel like I'm in a movie!". It doesn't sound as eloquent reading from a blog post, but it's miraculous - nonetheless. Kaidon would recommend going down the trail with a Vespa of sort to capture the full experience.

Linda Asaf's Swimwear Launch Party

A couple of weeks ago, Kaidon and I went to a fashion event at Abel's on the Lake.

It's really cool to see people from different industries unite under one commonality - fashion. I'm from Dallas, so I'm still trying to find out where I fit into Austin's lifestyle.

Anyway, we didn't get to watch the fashion show, but we took a few snaps of some of Austin's most fashionable people.

Mary. Kaid & Sona

MARY

Photobucket

Hi. My name is Mary Dang. I'm just an ordinary girl in a big, big world. I like to observe people, places, and things. Most of all, I like to capture moments. You know. Those moments that occur so fast and so splendidly that you wish you could replay over and over again. Well, I like to capture those moments in beautiful pictures through the lens of a beautiful camera. I just want to make an impact one day.

KAIDON

Photobucket

Hi I'm Kaidon Ho. I am currently studying fashion design at University of Texas at Austin and I am addicted to the world of fashion. I might be the CRAZY Asian guy whose laugh might make your eyes widen, whose style makes your mouth drop, and whose singing make your ears bleed, but my passion is something that defines who I truly am. I like to people watch on my free time, read billions of bookmarked blogs until birds start to sing, layer in the middle of Texas summers, and day dream about the world I live in at times. Every little things in life inspire me at random moments and I simply want to share them in my own perspectives and creativity. I want to be influential in every way.

"We [artists] don't fear because we're inadequate but because we're powerful beyond mesaure."

SONA

Photobucket

Hi! My name is Sona Doshi, and I'm full of surprises! People's first impression of me is always different than what they imagine me to be like. I may be a Pre Pharmacy student at UT Austin, but I love fashion, Hip hop and everything about it, and looking at random objects and getting inspired by them. I live for creativity and I love to stand out.
